Facts About Vehicle Storage
Cars are expensive and they need to be stored properly to keep them in a working condition for a long time. Keeping them in a garage will only provide them shelter, but there is more to maintaining cars than just sheltering them. They need to be cared for and protected against different environmental agents that can be damaging for them. This is the reason a vehicle storage can be an apt choice for sheltering cars and also for maintaining them in a good condition. The cars should be prepared for the storehouse, before they are sent to it. This will complement the care that they will receive in the storehouses.
The pressure in the tires of the cars should be at the manufactures indicated level. Otherwise, with normal leakage they might end up flat after a long period. The car should be properly cleaned and waxed. Some owners don’t clean their cars of the dust and grime that they catch when driven regularly. This will negatively affect the condition of the car if they are kept in the vehicle storage without removing the dust and grime. These pollutants will settle on the car permanently and deteriorate the surface layers of the car’s paint.
The interior of the cars should also be cleaned properly before being sent to the storage. It is always better to clean using a vacuum cleaner so that the interior bears a brand new and spotlessly clean look. The area under the seats should be cleaned properly and food wrappers, old newspapers or any other items that are found on the floors of the cars should be removed. Remove all extra articles from the car that don’t belong. It is always better to pack up such items in a separate bag and store them along with the car in the trunk. The doors of the cars should be locked properly to ensure security of the car.
The gas tank of the cars should be filled to prevent or minimize the condensation in the tank. A preservative should be added to the gas to prevent the formation of gum and varnish in the fuel system. It is always recommended to go for the best quality preservatives available as many of them that are found nowadays, are not stable. The engine of the cars that are being sent to storage should be started once and kept running for about fifteen minutes to enable the fuel to be distributed evenly throughout the fuel system. If possible remove the battery and take it home with you. It does two things, if somebody was able to bypass the storage facility’s security systems, they couldn’t start your car, and you can put the battery on a battery tender to maintain it’s charge so when you are ready to start your car, your battery is ready. After that use a good quality car cover for any dust that may linger and settle on the car.
